Circle of Security
Overview
Parenting babies and toddlers can be hard work!
They don’t come with a manual and often parents can find themselves asking
“what do you want?”
Circle of security takes out the guess work by giving a clear map of what young children need.
Young children’s big emotions can feel overwhelming, circle of security helps us to know how to manage and support our children’s emotions.
We parent based on our own experiences of being parented. While there are some things we want to do the same as our parents (or caregivers) there are often many things that we would want to do differently. Circle of security helps us to think about our experiences and make choices about how we want to parent our child(ren).
Facilitators work with parents and caregivers to help them to:
- Understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
- Support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
- Enhance the development of their child’s self esteem
Honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure
